DEMO says…

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

… we’re just a short time from our big moment on stage at DEMO 09 - here’s what they have to say about Ensembli…

The number of technologies working to personalize your content is almost endless. ensembli sets itself apart with continually applied relevance analysis and essentially zero effort from the user. By collecting and indexing RSS feeds from across the Web, then applying patented personalization algorithms, ensembli presents each user with his or her own targeted news results. For the thousands of users for whom Google Reader is a burden, it’s a service worth checking out. If the keys to mainstream success in content personalization are ease of use and spot-on recommendations, we’re betting on ensembli.

News release: Ensembli launches mass-market personalized news aggregator at DEMO 09

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

Palm Desert, CA - 2March 2009 - At the DEMO 09 conference today, the first mass-market personalized news aggregator, ensembli, makes its début.

“Some of the most successful Internet companies on the planet were launched at DEMO, and we are extremely proud to have been selected to present here this year,” said Ensembli’s CEO, Mike Wheatley.

Chris Shipley, executive producer of the DEMO Conference, said: “DEMO 2001 demonstrated a simple truth: when times are tough and budgets tight, the smart money takes a flight to quality. DEMO has always been about bringing people together with quality products from quality entrepreneurs. DEMO 09 is no exception.”

“The Internet is a great resource, but at Ensembli we believe it’s broken as a means of keeping up to date with things that interest you,” says Michael Wheatley.

“For a start the mainstream only understands search engines. None of the tools that expert early adopters use - feed readers, aggregators, alerters and the like – have gone mainstream. They’re just too difficult and too confusing. Furthermore, irrespective of which tools you use, none of them knows who you are, what interests you, and what excites you. Relevance is an intensely personal thing, yet all you really see is popular and paid-for content masquerading as relevant content.”

Ensembli finds stories that relate to your interests. The more stories you read, discard or just plain ignore, the more it’ll give you stories that you’ll really like. And as your interests change, so ensembli will keep up with you.

So ensembli gets smarter about you the more you use it. It’s effortless to use, continually surfacing your own must-see stories and keeping you informed whilst saving you time and effort.

Ensembli’s service is browser-based and requires no software downloads. It is offered to the global Internet audience free of charge, and will be monetized through advertising and technology license sales to content-rich sites and portals.

It delivers three clear sets of benefits:

  • For users, it is simple and engaging, saving time and effort while scratching a powerful curiosity itch;
  • For advertisers, hyper-targeted adverts can be served whenever users visit properties operated by Ensembli partners as well as whenever they visit Ensembli’s web site, increasing ECPMs;
  • For site and portal owners it offers a valuable and sticky service for their users, increasing time on site and advertising revenues.

Ensembli is driven by proprietary new science. The personalization market has never fulfilled its potential, and Ensembli’s approach is fundamentally different from ‘traditional’ AI machine learning and collaborative filtering approaches. It delivers more effective results in a highly efficient and scalable manner, and the user experience is simple and completely non-threatening for mainstream users.
